Food Shelf

Hello Empathic Students,

Welcome back! We are so glad you are here.  We have a lot to be thankful for and during the month of December we should take some time to consider others and how they are feeling, too.  When we are able to understand and share someone else’s emotions, we are showing empathy.  Sometimes, by being empathic, we might try to help.  I would like to encourage us all to practice this skill over the next 3 weeks.  One way we can help or be of service to others is to share what we have.  The local food self is very low and we can help by bringing in peanut butter, boxed macaroni and cheese, canned fruits, vegetables, and soups!

Empathically Yours,
Mrs. Aldrich

Carrots from last year's Kindergarten garden picked by this years first graders~ They are delicious~

Thanksgiving ~A Time To Serve

November is a good time to recognize how we might serve others.  Many of you have brought thoughtful ideas to our discussions about how Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving share the common thread of Service.  During this Holiday season, take some time to show you care by sharing your skills, time, talents, or just offering a helping hand to someone else.  Be prepared to discuss your experiences!

In the Service of Our School,

Mrs. Aldrich

Hello Community Servants,

This Month we will focus on Service. On Monday, November 11th we will recognize and thank the brave men and women who have served in our Armed Forces.  There are other forms of service.  Con you think of a way you have served others?

Hello Albert Bridge School!
We have had a busy and productive week being responsible for our learning, our environment, and each other.  Soccer players have been practicing and playing hard~Keep up the hard work!  The Vermont Symphony Orchestra's Instrumental Petting Zoo came to ABS on Friday and the students had a chance to try many different instruments. Thank you Ms. Becker, Ms. Jones, Mr. Aldrich, Mr. Underhill, Ms. Mello, Ms. Garrow and especially, Ms. Bell for helping our instrumentalists explore the many instruments! Our 3-6 graders will be presenting their speeches for student council next week! I can't wait to hear about the great ideas your young community leaders will contribute to our school. Spelling bee students are hard at work preparing for their regional spelling bee on October 7th.  Athletes, scholars, musicians, civil servants, environmentalists, gardeners, scientists, historians, photographers, spellers, and most of all LEARNERS fill our halls everyday.  Thank you for being so responsible and caring.

Responsibility

Good Morning Responsible Community Members,

We have been diligently practicing different ways to be a responsible member of the Albert Bridge Community. I am looking forward to filling our bucket this week with the many ways you take responsibility for your learning and impact on the community.  Why do you think it is important to be responsible? Be prepared to share!

Responsibly Yours,

Mrs. Aldrich

Week 2

                                                September 3, 2013
Hello Albert Bridge School Community,
This week we will be continuing to build our community and look for ways we fill each other's buckets.  Albert Bridge Students have demonstrated they are a caring and respectful community.  We'll have our bucket with brief stories that show how other people fill our bucket. Some people in our community have filled the Albert Bridge Bucket by participating in the Target "Take Charge of Education"! Thanks for choosing Albert Bridge as your school to support.

Gratefully,
                      Mrs. Aldrich

Week 1

Hello All,

The first four days of the Albert Bridge 2013-2014 school year have been busy and productive. Students are stepping up to the plate and showing what a great community West Windsor and Brownsville are.

The afterschool program is up and running.  Please contact us if you are interested!

Tuesday was our  first assembly of the year and we began a discussion about what a community is. A group of people who work together, help each other, and take care of each other were thoughts our students shared with each other.  We also read one of my favorite books about meeting someone new.

On Wednesday Albert Bridge Students and Faculty participated in a nation wide bell ringing to celebrate and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the "March on Washington".  Many thoughtful and challenging conversations took place in our walls about civil rights and how much work we still need to do as a nation to make sure ALL people are given the same opportunities.

Soccer practice has started off with some good hustle! Grades 3-6 have practice this Saturday.  Thank you Matt, Eli, and  Anne for getting this off the ground this year!  Also, student athletes showed their leadership skills as they worked with the k-1 kids practice.

Friday will be our second assembly and we will continue our discussion around what a community is and what our responsibilities are in our community!  Teachers have been working with the students to understand how our actions impact others.  I will be sharing a book about taking care of others during the Friday assembly.

Congratulations Albert Bridge School~Excellent start to the school year!

Curiosity

Hello Albert Bridge Community,

Summertime is a good time to let our curiosity take us on adventures.  Children are often better at this than adults, which reminds me that kids can be good leaders. Have you been on a kid-led adventure recently?  One of my recent kid-led adventures was exploring our school's flower garden. We found many insects enjoying the garden, which led to some good questions.
1) How many different insects come to a flower?
2) Does the same insect like the same kind of flower or do they like different kinds?
3) Why do the insects always go to the center of the flower?
Busy Bee...can you find it?

Una Mariposa

Curiosity is the starting point of learning!

Have a safe and curious week.

July Showers bring...

Hello Albert Bridge Community,

Thank you to the many members of this community who have been so welcoming and helpful.  I enjoyed my first Brownsville 4th of July and Fireworks.  It was uplifting to see so many families enjoying the festivities and each other!

I was able to check out the Kindergarten carrots yesterday while Mrs. Cronin was giving them some T.L.C.

The first picture represents an average looking plant.  I noticed the plant is about 2 inches tall.  I wonder how big the root is that's growing in the soil.

Washed out track at ABS
This fast growing carrot (4 inches tall!)  is one of the largest plants in the bed~

ABS has been affected by so much rain~If you come by to run along the track, please be careful.  A portion of the track has been washed out.  I wonder if we can come up with some solutions to fix this.

With so many new rocks exposed, I decided to re-read one of my favorite picture books "Everybody Needs a Rock" by Byrd Baylor illustrated by Peter Parnall.

Stay dry and cool this week!

Mrs. Aldrich
